Reaching hiring managers directly

A manager can assess team fit or direct you to the hiring process. Contact them with a concrete reason, a relevant example, and one request. Use LinkedIn when a message option is available, and follow the official application process when the posting asks you to do so.

I noticed your work in [Relevant area] but am unsure whether this opening is on your team. Do you manage this role, or could you point me toward the appropriate hiring contact?

Before you send

  • Verify the opening and the person's connection to the role.
  • Give a specific, truthful reason for reaching out.
  • Use one relevant achievement, contribution, or project as evidence.
  • Make one clear request and leave room for a decline.
  • Replace every placeholder and check that your links can be viewed.

For freshers, replace work experience with a project, internship, or coursework contribution. For career switchers, connect one transferable skill with a relevant technical project. Experienced developers can use a recent outcome they can substantiate. These are personalization substitutions, not extra messages to send.
