Frontend system design: introduction

Stay aware of the interview time: 45–60 minutes.

Requirements gathering (5 min)

  • Functional requirements
  • Non-functional requirements

Architecture: component design (10 min)

  • Build component relationships based on the requirements.

Data model (10 min)

  • Design component models and their state.
  • State management: local component state and global state.

Interface API (15 min)

  • API design: /user, /posts, etc.
  • Communication protocols: HTTPS, GraphQL, sockets, etc.

Optimizations and deep dive (30 min)

  • Advanced topics like Web Workers, asset optimization, and accessibility, based on the requirements.
  • Avoid mentioning topics you are not strong in, like web security, gRPC, or web streaming.
